TRAINING
GROUPS GNST is dedicated to
teaching the fundamental skills of swimming to all swimmers. Initially, the focus is on stroke development
and refinement moving towards specific race strategies and specialty work as
swimmers progress through the 4 training levels listed below. Coaches will put the swimmers into
their practice groups, determining where the swimmer fits best so that they
receive the proper stroke instruction.
Coaches base their decision on stroke technique, age, training
ability, and number of swimmers in each group. Be sure to check the
calendar for practice times and locations. Cubs: Pre-competitive Developmental Group
(approximate ages 6-10 yrs old) ·
Objectives: Focus is on stroke development in all
four strokes, turns, skill work, and fun. ·
Equipment: None ·
Suggested
Practices: Two practices per week (@ 45 minutes each) ·
Suggested
Meets: Intrasquad
scrimmages Cats: First-level Competitive Group
(approximate ages 12 yrs & under) ·
Objectives: Focus is on further stroke development
and IM training, with an emphasis on technique. ·
Equipment: Kickboards, fins, and pull buoys. ·
Suggested
Practices: 2-3 practices per week (@ 90 minutes each) ·
Suggested
Meets: 3 or more meets per
season, including the Division II Meet, and any meets swimmer has qualified
for Pink Panther Group:
Second-level Competitive Group (approximate ages 14 yrs & under) ·
Objectives: Focus is on refining strokes and
racing strategies, both physical and mental aspects. ·
Equipment: Kickboards, fins, and pull buoys. ·
Suggested
Practices: 3-5 practices per week (@ 90-120 minutes each) ·
Suggested
Meets: 1 meet per month,
including any meets swimmer has qualified for (e.g. MW Division I Meet) Silver Panther Group:
Year-round Competitive Group (advanced age-group swimmers)

Objectives: Focus is on specialty work and
development for Regional and National Meets. ·
Equipment: Kickboards, fins, and pull buoys. ·
Suggested
Practices: 5-6 practices per week (@ 90-120 minutes each) ·
Suggested
Meets: 1 meet per month,
including any meets swimmer has qualified for
